Meet Hannah: Small Bites' Newest Intern!

This Fall, Small Bites Adventure Club is partnering with Georgia State University’s Dietetic Internship program to host interns! Interns bring a new perspective to our work at Small Bites Adventure Club. Plus, we LOVE introducing new students to the joy and excitement of hands-on food education in the classroom!

Let’s meet our first intern, Hannah!

  1. Hey Hannah, we’re so excited to have you on our team this month! Why were you interested in interning with Small Bites Adventure Club?

Hi! I’m thrilled to be here! What drew me to Small Bites Adventure Club was the mission of helping children discover, eat, and love fruits and vegetables. Nutrition education is so important and often overlooked for children. Not only does it teach life skills, it allows them to be brave, expand their palate, and have fun with their classmates!

2. What have you enjoyed most about interning at Small Bites Adventure Club?

I’ve really enjoyed getting a glimpse of all the behind-the-scenes efforts, from packing the boxes and printing materials to connecting with teachers and hearing how the recipe tastings went. I also attended a Farm to ECE Coalition meeting where I was able to network and learn about all the amazing work being done in the Farm-to-School field in the state of Georgia. Laney and Erin are an awesome team, and I am so grateful to have learned from them!

3. Tell us a little about your background!

I attended the University of South Carolina where I graduated with a degree in public health last spring! Throughout my four years of undergrad, I gained experience in sports nutrition working alongside the football team. I also spent a summer at the University of Florida where I interned with the football dietitians and was a co-manager for NCAA Gatorade camps on campus. Now, I am at Georgia State University, where I am getting my Master of Science in the Coordinated Nutrition Program. I am looking forward to exploring the many different specialties in the field of nutrition!

4. Was there ever a food that you didn’t like when you were a kid that you love now?

Despite being 100% Italian, I refused to eat any and all tomatoes growing up! I have now come to love tomatoes and can finally participate in homemade pasta dinners every Sunday night with my family.

5. What’s your favorite Small Bites recipe?

My favorite Small Bites recipe has to be the Lovely Lettuce with Lemony Vinaigrette. I love the citrust flavors—it’s light, tangy, and so refreshing. I also love how versatile this recipe is; it pairs well with almost any meal and shows how easy it is to make your own vinaigrette from scratch. Once you try it, you’ll never want to go back to store-bought dressings!

We can’t wait to see how Hannah changes the world, one Small Bite at a time. Until then, happy adventuring!
